What is Fire Cider??

Updated: Oct 28, 2020

Our November 8th frolic + workshop will have us chopping and mixing up personalized jars of Fire Cider! It's a simple, age-old infusion to help support your immune system going into fall/winter (aka cold and flu season).

Fire Cider is made up of multiple ingredients with specific attributes - for example you may include garlic for it's anti-viral properties, or honey for it's anti-microbial actions. These ingredients are infused in a jar of apple cider vinegar - which has it's own benefits, I use raw vinegar for the probiotics - for several weeks, creating a potent mix.

When it's ready, Fire Cider can be taken by the spoonful, mixed in a bit of water, or incorporated in any recipe that calls for a spicy/pungent kick. I sneak some into salad dressings to make it more palatable for those who want the benefits but can't handle the flavour straight-up.

Fire Cider and the act of making this infusion is an age-old tradition across several cultures and referred to as 'folk medicine'. We think it's important to spread the knowledge of this handy home remedy to encourage folks to support their own health and those they love. It's also important to keep this recipe free and accessible, we are grateful to those who recently fought for the right to use the term and recipe(s) for Fire Cider, as a large company tried to trademark it - you can read about the details here.

Can't join us on November 8th? Do up your own Fire Cider at home! Here are some recipe ideas to get you started: https://blog.mountainroseherbs.com/fire-cider
